Sovereign Brutality

Participant Waiver, Assumption of Risk, and Media Release

This is a legal document. Read it. If you do not understand it, do not sign it. Signing means you give up the right to sue Sovereign Brutality and related parties for injuries, including those caused by ordinary negligence, to the fullest extent Rhode Island law allows.

1. Parties

“Promotion” means the unincorporated promotion or company doing business as Sovereign Brutality, and its owners, officers, promoters, bookers, employees, contractors, volunteers, referees, officials, medical personnel (if any), sponsors, advertisers, and the owner/operator/lessor of any venue used for an Event. “Participant” means the undersigned wrestler, manager, commentator, ring announcer, referee, security guard, or other person entering the ring, backstage, or performance area.

2. Events

This waiver covers every Sovereign Brutality tryout, rehearsal, taping, live event, appearance, and related activity (“Event”), including travel on the premises, locker rooms, entranceways, and use of chairs, tables, bamboo sticks (shinai), cookie sheets, trash cans, ladders, and other theatrical props.

3. Wrestling is dangerous

Participant understands professional wrestling is staged entertainment that still involves real athletic contact. Inherent and obvious risks include, without limitation: broken bones, torn ligaments, concussion and other brain injury, spinal injury, paralysis, cuts, bruises, nerve damage, heat illness, cardiac events, infection, and death. Risks also include contact with other participants, the ring, ropes, turnbuckles, floor, crowd, cameras, lighting, sound equipment, and props. Spots may be planned and still go wrong. No amount of skill, officiating, or planning removes these risks.

4. Assumption of risk

Participant voluntarily participates and EXPRESSLY ASSUMES ALL RISKS of injury, disability, property damage, and death arising from the Event, whether those risks are known or unknown, inherent or not, and whether caused in whole or in part by the ordinary negligence of the Promotion or other participants.

5. Release

In exchange for being allowed to participate, Participant, for themself and their heirs, estate, and assigns, RELEASES, WAIVES, DISCHARGES, AND COVENANTS NOT TO SUE the Promotion from any and all claims, demands, and causes of action for personal injury, death, or property damage arising out of the Event, INCLUDING CLAIMS ARISING FROM THE ORDINARY NEGLIGENCE OF THE PROMOTION, to the maximum extent permitted by Rhode Island law. This release does not apply to claims for gross negligence, recklessness, or intentional misconduct to the extent such claims cannot be waived under applicable law.

6. Indemnity

Participant agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Promotion from claims brought by others that arise from Participant’s conduct at an Event, including attorney fees.

7. Fitness and medical

Participant certifies they are physically and mentally fit to wrestle or perform, have no condition that makes participation unreasonably dangerous, and will tell the promoter before the Event of any injury, illness, concussion history, or restriction. The Promotion does not provide medical insurance. Any first aid on site is a courtesy, not a duty, and is not a substitute for emergency care. Participant authorizes reasonable emergency medical treatment if they are unable to consent, at Participant’s own expense.

8. Not an employee

Participant is an independent contractor / guest talent, not an employee of the Promotion. No wages, workers’ compensation, or benefits are promised unless a separate written booking agreement says otherwise.

9. Rules

Participant will follow house rules, the referee, and the promoter. The Promotion may remove anyone from an Event at any time. Alcohol or drugs that impair performance are prohibited backstage and in-ring. In-ring competition is booked men vs. men and women vs. women. That pairing rule does not apply to managers, commentary, officials, security, or crew.

House conduct: threats, harassment of anybody who works at a Sovereign Brutality show, theft, violence outside a booked spot, sexual harassment, and sexual assault are an immediate cut. There are no warnings and no second chances. The written house rules are posted with the company materials and on the company website.

10. Media release

Participant grants the Promotion a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free right to photograph, record, and use Participant’s name, likeness, voice, and performance from the Event in any media (including livestream, VOD, social, and advertising) without further payment. Participant waives any inspection or approval right.

11. Personal property

The Promotion is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged gear, phones, or belongings.

12. Law

Rhode Island law governs this waiver. Venue for any dispute is the state courts of Rhode Island. If any part is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. This is the entire agreement on liability and media for participation, unless a later written booking contract says otherwise.

13. Acknowledgment

If under 18 — parent / legal guardian

I am the parent or legal guardian of the minor named above. I have read this waiver, I consent to the minor’s participation, I assume the risks on the minor’s behalf to the extent Rhode Island law allows, and I agree to the release, indemnity, and media terms. I understand many courts limit a parent’s power to waive a minor’s future injury claims, and I still agree to the terms that are enforceable.
